August's Theme: Sky & Water

March 25 - Y is for Yard work

Before and after Phase 1. We have a long way to go, but it is a start. So far we have peas, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, radishes, lettuce, spinach, kale, chard, carrots, leeks, asparagus, rosemary, chives, garlic and onions in the ground. The left shows the cleaning out of the Russian Sage before we really clean it out and the left shows our asparagus bed. This year will bring our first harvest, we hope!

March 24 - X is for

X shapes...or attempts.

March 23 - W is for Water

March 23 is World Water Day. I am truly thankful that I have such easy access to drinking water, something that is a rarity in so many places.

March 20 - T is for Trick

This is from last week, but I have been waiting for a place to post it. I was walking downstairs and thought our garden bed was on fire! After a moment, I realized it was the reflection our wood stove fire on the window. Yes, this was before I had a cup of coffee!

March 19 - S is for Sheep and Skunk cabbage

It was my husband's birthday today and we decided to take a drive on the south side of the island with a picnic in tow. On the way, we passed a friend's farm and saw the lambs were frolicking, so we stopped and enjoyed the lambs and piglets.

As we extended our journey around the wet, westside, the presence of Skunk Cabbage was everywhere. Those large yellow flowers that let you know it is wet wet wet.

I just had to throw in a sunset too.

March 15 - O is for Optimistic

The weather here has been all over the map: warm and sunny, cloudy and rainy, cloudy and windy and rainy, snowing, hailing. And that is just the last three days. This morning as I was getting the Lil Man off to school I saw this little daffodil burst open while it's neighbor stayed closed for business and I felt optimistic for the sunny days of Spring. I love these little reminders that the windy, stormy days will pass.

March 14 - N is for New Growth

This shot didn't turn out how I wanted it to. The background is too busy. Bummer. Perhaps I will try again tomorrow.

March 12 - L is for Little Lemon Lover

We went out to lunch today with some dear friends and we began discussing what I could shoot for "L" today when Lil Miss picked up a lemon and started sucking on it. My girlfriend shouted "Lemons!" and I dashed for my iPhone. The result was about 20 shots, most of her smiling and loving that lemon. This is the closest shot to what we expected would happen when she started sucking on the lemon.

March 10 - J is for Jam

My 4 year old has taken over. Now he is asking me, "Mom, what are you going to do for J? I think we should do jam...in the freezer." Ok. It beats his first suggestion which would have taken us to the African Savannah. Here is my post from when I made it. I like the pics :)

R stands for raspberry. All of the rest are strawberry.

March 9- I is for Sink

Yes, my 4 year old pointed out that there is an "i" in sink,  so I should put an "i" in the sink. Alrighty. I had to do it!

March 5 - Eelgrass at Eagle Cove

Taken with Canon 20D.

March 4 - D is for Donuts

Taken with Canon 20D.

These are an unusual treat for our house. I can actually say that I have never bought donuts for our kids, but it was "D" day and for some reason, donuts were calling.
